Thriving Families Program
Thriving Families Program
PCCSU’s Thriving Families Program is a wrap-around program aimed at addressing the challenges faced by individuals and families suffering from mental health and substance use issues. Wrap around programs can vary depending on the set goals, but the Thriving Families Program shows a partnership and collaboration between PCCSU and ECU’s Family Therapy Clinic. Clients at ECU FTC are given the opportunity to participate in wrap-around services for the family through education and prevention. This program offers a list of community trainings and presentations aimed at addressing the needs of the family to prevent potential substance use of children and other family members and to further support the individual client by making the home a healthier environment. The overall goal is to build up the family protective factors to support all individuals to prevent future substance use.
The education we hope to disseminate includes promoting economic stability with financial management, resume building, interview skills, parenting skills, building resilience, healthy attachment and bonding between parent and children, healthy relationships, as well as, understanding the importance of securing and monitoring alcohol in the home, locking up any medications, and the importance of parent-child communication in preventing substance use. Those enrolled in the program are eligible to receive incentives for participating in each training.
The list of education-based trainings being offered throughout this program and a brief description of each can be found here.
Although our target population for this program is high-risk individuals for future substance use, our hope is to broaden this population into the larger community and other clinics in Pitt County.
